Currently, Theo works as the Director of Public Affairs for the Golden State Warriors—specially spearheading the organizations community organizing efforts for its move to the Mission Bay Neighborhood in San Francisco. Later this year, Theo will finish a Masters program at University of San Francisco with a focus on Urban Affairs.
FINDING HIS PASSION
In early 2010, Theo worked as a Field Organizer for a Malia Cohen’s supervisorial campaign in San Francisco. Later that year, Mayor Newsom appointed Theo to serve on the Southeast Community Facilities Commission to provide guidance for building operations and social services for community residents living in 94124. In 2011, Salon Media Group employed Theo to develop a community organizing strategy for its membership base of over 10,000 subscribers nation-wide. This same year Theo graduated with his B.A. in Political Science from Notre Dame de Namur University. His political work continued in 2013 after being appointed to San Francisco’s Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure overseeing major urban development projects in the Mission Bay, Transbay, and Hunter’s Point neighborhoods. .

Prior to his commission appointment by Mayor Ed Lee, The was the founding president of the Black Young Democrats of San Francisco where he led the organizing efforts opposing the predatory policing practice of ‘Stop-and-Frisk,’ which gained national attention. Theo was also selected to receive the Local Hero Award by the San Francisco Bay Guardian newspaper for his political organizing efforts and also featured in San Francisco Magazine for his organizing efforts.
Theo Ellington began an early career in the field of community and political organizing. In 2008, he was appointed by then Mayor Gavin Newsom to the San Francisco Youth Commission to advise city agency on governmental polices pertaining to young people across the city. This gave valuable insight to the political process.
